FAQ's
Here you will find additional questions and answers about Camp Altitude.
-
How long is each camp session?
Camp Altitude’s session is two weeks long. We feel that two weeks is a good amount of time to derive the benefits of a sleep away camp experience, while not feeling overly daunting to either children or parents in terms of time spent apart.
-
Where does camp take place?

Please visit our camp page for information about our locations.
-
Who are the directors and staff and how many campers and staff will be at camp?
There will be 30 campers, 15 counseling staff and 3 professional staff members. Our counseling staff members are university and graduate students studying in the fields of psychology, occupational therapy, speech therapy and the like. In addition to our Clinical Director, we will have an Occupational Therapist, Behavior Specialist and Social Worker on our staff.
-
How do I know my child will be safe at camp?
Camp Altitude will have exclusive use of – and access to – our dorm on campus. The university provides public safety, and our camp staff will use walkie-talkies to communicate with one another. Additionally, we will have a camp nurse for distribution of medications and to assist in injuries or sickness should it occur. As members of the American Camp Association (ACA) we will be following the ACA's standards guidelines for the camp's operation and safety.
- How will you help prepare me and my child for camp this summer?
-
In order to apply for a space at Camp Altitude, we will ask you to give us a detailed description of your child, including any therapy they have received. Our Clinical Director or our Program Director will also personally meet with you and your child to get to know you, and to start the process of getting you ready for camp and familiarizing you with the Camp Altitude Program. Prior to the start of camp, you will receive a Parent Handbook outlining all aspects of the Camp Altitude experience. Additionally, both the Clinical Director and Program Director will be available to assist you with any questions or concerns that you have.
-
Can I talk to my child while he/she is at camp?
Each camper has one scheduled phone call during the camp session. We do not schedule phone calls for the first four days of camp, so our campers have time to adjust. Camp staff are present during phone calls as they can be emotional.
-
What contact will I have with the camp’s directors during camp?
Both our Clinical Director and Program Director, Anna Cozzi will be available by phone and via e-mail, should you have any questions or concerns. Additionally, each night Camp Altitude will post photos of the events at camp, so you can see your child in action at camp!
-
How will children be grouped? Where will they stay?
Our campers will be put into groups of six campers. There will be a minimum of two staff members assigned to each group of six, and we will also have a number of professional staff who will rotate among groups throughout the day. Campers and staff will live in dorm rooms within a secure dormitory that is exclusively for Camp Altitude's use. More information about the accommodations at each of our campuses is available through a link on the Camp Altitude webpage.
-
What happens if my child needs medical attention? What if my child takes medication?
Camp Altitude will have a full-time nurse living in the dorm with the campers and staff. Medications taken by campers will be stored under lock and key with the nurse and be distributed as required by our nurse.
-
What does my child pack for camp? Is laundry done while at camp?
Prior to camp, you will receive a packing list of items that each camper needs to bring with them to camp. Laundry is done on campus one time in the middle of the camp session.
-
Can you accommodate my child's special dietary needs?
Please let us know what your specific needs are, but most special dietary requirements and/or allergies (vegetarian, dairy allergies, gluten-free diet, for example) can be accommodated through our camp food service.
